my degree for deceiving

But as I was leaving

you turned my head around.

we were half crazy in the late afternoon.

But now you're going away

and I don't know what to say

There was a time

when life was just a matter of dreaming

of sharing smiles and scheming

And never thinking of tomorrow

as today.

But those times have changed

and the plaster smiles have all been broken.

The bad rhymes have all been spoken.

And I've lost respect for the token love affair

I tried to arrange.

I could beg you to stay

and make believe this dying dream is working,

pretend that all the laughter and the joking

was just as real as it was

when we first began.

I don't know why

I should even try to salvage any dignity,

because I don't know what I would have done

any differently.
